Description

So, I was taking a break from Winx, and decided to write a OUAT Fanfiction. Here it is!

P.s This story was written by me. Don't steal, it's not cool.

Once upon a time

The Happy endings Book 1: Ice Wolf part 1

The forest was quiet as I took my ride. The winter air was crisp, and the woods smelled strongly of pine and cedar trees. That was good. I needed to clear my head. Tonight I would be at Emma’s Ball, facing an entire kingdom. No pressure. Though I had learned to control my ice powers, and the citizens of Arendelle knew everything and were okay with it, I always got a bit nervous traveling outside of the kingdom. Not everyone looks at magic as a good thing. Some are even afraid of it.

I really don’t want to make a scene tonight, but even now I can’t help the ice creeping across the reins and saddle of my horse, Farrah. She whickers in discomfort and I pat her side sympathetically.  Sometimes, I really wished I’d just stay home, so I wouldn’t have to worry about losing control. I could hear my aunt’s voice in my head...

“Don’t worry, Elsa. Breath in, Breath out; Concentrate on relaxing your muscles, one by one. Keep breathing. It will get easier with time and patience.”

I did as she taught me, and soon the ice retreated back into my magic. Farrah turned her head toward me and huffed impatiently.

“What?” I asked, exasperated. “I’m working on it.”

She turned back toward the path and we continued on. I had told Emma I needed some space to think, and she had suggested a place about half a mile north of the place, where she went to think.

“I should have been there by now,” I thought to myself. “She said it wasn’t that far to the glade. I hope I’m not lost.”

I looked behind me through the trees. The sun had started to sink behind the horizon. The party would start soon, and everyone was going to wonder where I was. Suddenly, a sharp, piercing howl split the silence; then another, and another. Wolves! I turned Farrah around to retrace my path, but a look in that direction showed me my mistake.

The wolves were closer then I had thought, and they were closing in around me. A large grey snapped its jaws an inch from my leg, its fangs hidden behind a layer of foam. Farrah reared, terrified and took off in the direction I had been heading in before.

I just held on as she ran, hoping against hope I wouldn’t fall off, or better yet that the wolves would lose interest. But I knew they wouldn’t. Wolves were the kind that enjoyed a good hunt.

We veered off the path as another wolf blocked our way. As we sped through the forest, branches whipped in my face and tore at my cloak. I could try to hit them with ice, but as scared as I was, I didn’t want to hurt them. I couldn’t be sure I wouldn’t kill them.

One of the wolves, the large grey, managed to get in front of us, and Farrah reared again. This time, I couldn’t hang on and was thrown to the ground as she took off. I had no time to asses my bruises and scratches though, because the wolves were now surrounding me.

There was nothing else I could do. If I ran, they’d get me. If I stood my ground, they’d get me. If I fought them with my ice, they might get seriously hurt or die. So, I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and raising my arms over my head I created an icy shield around me.

Angered, the wolves clawed and bit at the shield but they couldn’t get through. But I didn’t know how long I could keep this up.

Once upon a time

The Happy endings Book 1: Ice Wolf part 2

Wolf and I were on our way back to camp after along day of work. The deer slung across my shoulders felt like it weighed a million pounds, but I didn’t mind the weight. Life had gotten better as royal huntsman and forester, a surprise I hadn’t expected. Royalty were a bad lot, generally. At least, the ones in George’s kingdom were.

I had moved here with my pack after King George the great (and pompous) had ordered all wolves hunted down and killed. They were supposedly “Disturbing the people and killing in the herds”, which was nonsense, seeing as they only hunt in the forest and plains where there are few humans. Wolves, and most other animals, tend to avoid people, which is why their hunting grounds are shrinking to nothing.

I remember it like it was yesterday....

I didn’t know what to expect when I was summoned by the King and Queen to the royal castle. I had heard Queen Snow White was kind and generous, and the King was supposed to be fair and just, but who knows how true that is.

I entered the throne room, accompanied by wolf. I was surprised they let him in, but there was no problem. I stood there, and greeted the King and Queen.

“Your Majesties,”

“Huntsman, do you know why you’ve been summoned?” The King asked.

“Of course he doesn’t know, Charming!” The Queen elbowed the King playfully. “Why do you think he’s here?”

I cleared my throat. Probably rude, but I had work to do, and I didn’t want to waste time.

“Anyway,” the King said, giving the Queen an irritated look, “We have called you to ask a favor of you. We hear that you are brave and good. You don’t hunt more then you need, you don’t kill the innocent, and you have a great respect for all nature.”

“Aye,” I replied.

“And so,” The Queen interrupted. “We would like you to consider becoming the Royal Huntsman and Forester. You would be head of our entire kingdoms huntsman, make sure they hunt judiciously, and treat the people fairly. The animals would be under your and our protection and”she nodded to wolf“we will protect the wolves as well. Will you agree?”

I thought about it for a moment. It sounded too good to be true, but if they kept their word, the wolves would be protected, as well as the rest of nature.

“I’ll do it.” I stated simply.

The Queen clapped and said “Perfect.”

The King called a guard and I was taken to the hunting lodge, where I would stay on.

So far, they’ve kept their word, and so have I.

Wolf nuzzled my hand, bringing me back to the present. His ears were perked up, and his head swung alertly, as if listening to something. I bent down closing my eyes, and listened as well. I could hear a lot of growling and barking close by, and I knew who it was.

I ran west, the direction of the growling, wolf close on my heels. As I got to a clearing, the snarling and barking grew louder. The trees gave way to grass, and I got a good sight of my pack, and what they were attacking.

A girl, about eighteen, stood in the middle of the clearing, surrounded by wolves. She wore a purple cloak and a blue dress. A wolf leapt forward at her, and she jumped back, knocking her hood off. Her platinum braid whipped back and forth as she turned her head frantically, looking for an escape. I saw fear and indecision play across her face. She seemed unsure what to do.

I have to do something or she’ll be ripped apart! As I start running toward her, I’m stunned into stopping as she lifted her arms, and blue/silver light shot out of her hands, encasing her in a ten feet sphere of ice.

She has magic? The wolves yip and bite at the sphere, but the ice reforms as fast as they break it. I start toward them again, seeing her strength waning through the translucent shield. She won’t last much longer. I have to get to her before they do, but I’m still twenty feet away. I put on an extra burst of speed, telling wolf to run ahead.

He does so, and makes it there just before me. I turn, placing myself between her and them, my back to the shield. They see me and stop attacking, though they still growl through gritted teeth. Wolf stares at them, raises his head to the sky, and howls. They quiet, and I take the opportunity to speak.

“Listen! You must stop! She is not like the other one! Not all those with magic are evil.”

They look unconvinced.

“Stop and think.” I state firmly, looking them in the eye. “She has magic. If she wanted to hurt you, she would have. But all she did was create a barrier to protect her self. If she was evil, why didn’t she take the opportunity to kill you all? Here.”

I set down the buck that had been slung over my shoulders.

“Take this, as an offering of peace. Let me trade my meal for yours.”

The lead female cocks her head, looking me in the face. She inclines her head to the buck, and two wolves separate from the pack to drag it away. She signals to the pack, and they take off into the forest. Turning back to face me, she nods her head to me, then follows.

The shield crumbles, and the girl falls to her knees. I reach out my hand and she takes it greatfully, leaning on me as she gets up.

“Thanks.” She said softly. “I don’t know what would have happened had you not been here.”

“Your welcome; my name is Graham. What are you doing out here?”

“I’m Princess Elsa of Arendelle, and I’m visiting for Princess Emma’s coming out ball. I was out riding when the wolves attacked and I was thrown from my horse.”

She stops, staring at the ground. “I hope she’s okay.” She murmurs.

“Here,” I offer my arm. “I’ll help you back to the castle. We should make it in time, it’s not far.”

Graham. This must be who Emma and Lily were telling me about; the new huntsman. I hadn’t believed them when they gushed over how handsome and rugged he looked, but now I see that they were not exaggerating.

He was tall, about 6 ft.2, reddish brown curly hair, and well groomed mustache. He looked to be all of about 19, making him a year older then me. The leather shirt he wore was stretched tight over his broad, well defined chest. I couldn’t help the small sigh that escaped my lips. He raises an eyebrow questioningly, and I duck my head, blushing.

I take his arm, and he guides me back to the path. I look at the sky, watching the stars start to appear.

“I’m going to be so late,” I moan under my breath.

“No, not with me guiding you,” Graham states firmly. “Now, can I ask you a question?”

I think frantically. I could imagine what he was going to ask about; my powers. Making up my mind, I reply “Sure.”

“Why didn’t you kill the wolves when they attacked you?” he asked cautiously.

The question caught me off guard. I shrugged.

“I didn’t want to hurt them. It wasn’t right.”

“But others would have justified it,” he said curiously. “Because the wolves were obviously willing to kill them, and you had the power.”

I huff. “I may have the power, but the most important thing about power is knowing when to use it. And just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. All life is precious. My aunt taught me that.”

“She’s a wise woman,” he mumbles thoughtfully, “as are you.”

I look up surprised, then down again. The way he was looking at me made a strange knot start forming in the pit of my stomach. I felt like butterflies were in my chest. “What’s wrong with me?”

To change the subject, I ask a question of my own.

“Why were they attacking me?”

“He looks up and a shadow crosses his face. “There are magical beings in this world who do not hold the same reverence for life as we.” And he left it at that.

Soon, we got to talking about home, our lives, and our friends. He told me stories of growing up in a wolf pack, I told him stories of my crazy sister, Anna, and all the fun we had growing up. It sounds strange, but I feel like I’ve know him my whole life. By the time we got back to the palace, I found myself leaning my head on his chest while his arm was wrapped around my back.

“Well, we’re here.” He says, looking at me with that same look. I feel the same butterflies trying to escape my chest.

“You’d better get going if you don’t want to be late.” He murmured, pulling away.

I didn’t want to leave, and I didn’t want him to go. What should I do? I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, before nervously tripping over my tongue.

“Well, you see....” I began. “My sister has a date to the ball, and Emma’s meeting all these new young princes and everything..... And all my friends will be dancing.... and I really don’t want to be alone. There’s plenty of awesome food.... and chocolate... if Anna doesn’t eat it all... and I was wondering...” I gulped. “Do you want to come?”

He looked at me, like he was trying to suppress a laugh. I looked at him quizzically before laughing myself. He grinned, offering his arm again.

“It would be my pleasure, Princess.”

And with that, arm in arm, we joined the party.
